I would like to share my other passion with you - MUSIC! Each Friday I will share with you an album I am currently enjoying. Might be an old classic or a brand new drop... This week...
Kicking off today, I am keen to share with you 'Son of Nyx' by Tamil Rogeon who is a Melbourne-based violist, violinist, and orchestral composer. This is his first full-length release in three years, which came out just last month.
Named after the Greek God of satire, Momus, 'Son Of Nyx' is an emotional six-track prism of exploratory modal jazz, afro-Latin percussion and boundless string-led composition, featuring some of my favourite and most exciting musicians working in Melbourne today.
I have been observing Tamil's journey for many years evolving from violinist with the Hip Hop outfit True Live, later forming the jazz-influenced orchestral electronic group, The RAah Project, exploring electronic jazzy sounds with trio Harvey Sutherland and also the outfit Bermuda.
With Son of Nyx, Rogeon has returned to where it all started for him: “After studying jazz for ten years and then leaving it for various crossover projects, it seemed an important thing to do. I felt it was the right time in my life to put out a record like this.”
He is launching the album along with many special guests tonight at The Night Cat on Johnston Street, Fitzroy.
